Memories of Home (Khartoum) presents 18 recent landscape paintings by Sudanese artist Khalid Abdelrahman, currently based in Cairo. Like many Sudanese artists who were originally living and working in Khartoum, Khalid fled the war in Khartoum to Cairo together with his family.

Referencing old and recent images he’s captured over time, Khalid uses acrylic on canvas to depict dreamy landscapes in Sudan and document the disappearing middle class in Khartoum, exceptionally. His artworks are distinguished by vivid palettes with rich textures created by layers of acrylic paint. As the situation in Sudan remains uncertain, Khalid has stayed productive creating magnificent new works as he lost most of his paintings during the challenging transition. I love his unwavering determination. Above all, I appreciate the optimism and beauty in his recent works.
